Property portfolio forms a critical investment class for the Fund as it provides a hedge against inflation compared to other asset classes.
The Fund owns fully occupied commercial buildings namely Stima Plaza and Umeme Plaza situated along Kolobot Road in Parklands and Naivasha road in Lavington area respectively. Stima plaza currently is the headquarters of Kenya Power and it also hosts key tenants like banks, clinics and others.
To enhance its revenue, the Fund has also participated in the development of houses for commercial purposes. Notably, Runda Park estate which comprises 39 town houses on ½ acre plots was the pioneer project that was completed in the year 2012.
The Fund undertook construction of Loresho Ridge estate Estate which located in
Loresho .The project comprises a gated community with 11 blocks of apartment, 67 apartments, 12 Villas, 82 town houses, a commercial centre and a kindergarten. The houses are open for sale to the general public and are ready for occupation.
Moving forward the Fund has developed a property brand, Sakile Properties Ltd, which will be the vehicle through which the Kenya Power Pension Fund invests member contributions in the real estate sector. The name Sakile is derived from the Zulu word ‘Sakhile’ which means ‘We have Built’
